Western Australia Maori Rugby League

Created as a central point for communicating past, present and future events.

Western Australia Maori Rugby League is a newly formed association, which provides the maori community of Western Australia an oppurtunity to get involved in the game of Rugby League, whilst keeping in touch with their maori culture and heritage.

Western Australia Maori Rugby League is in the third season of operation. Our main aim is to encourage Maori players to come together and play the sport they love whilst participating in Tikanga Maori. We currently have three main events in the calendar year that falls in October.
1. The Four winds tournament- 4 senior teams play off to decide who is the best Maori team in Perth for the year( each team performs their own Haka)
2. WA Maori V WA Pacific Islanders (Seniors and Under 18s)
3.Attend the New Zealand Maori Rugby League tournament in Rotorua

For Western Australia Maori Rugby League to operate we have formed a governing body and committee to ensure we are able to meet our requirements for the tournaments and events. Committee members, Coaches, Managers, Trainers, Physio/Masseuses, Players and volunteers are needed for this to be successful.

Looking forward we would eventually like to stage our own tournament comprising of teams from around West Australia i.e. North, South, East, West along with regional teams in Western Australia i.e. Goldfields, South West, North West.

Junior development of local Maori rugby league players is also something that would be of high priority, providing and helping young Maori become successful people and rugby league players.
